    hi..
    i'm having a problem with IE7..
when i try to open any microsoft related site or hotmail (and some other sites), and avast update site..
i get the message " Internet explorer cannot display the webpage"
but most of the sites work normally.
Hard disk was formated and fresh copy of windows is installed.
Before that everything was working fine.

i tried winsockxp and nothing happened,
Super AntiSpyware, it found couple of cookies, but they are gone now..
I have avast installed and he says it's clean..
ihave also tried to lower security settings and add these sites in "trusted sites" and still nothing...
Other computers are connected to the internet vis same router and
    the work fine...

    PLS help

I've tried Firefox, and still the same.
Problem also occured when I tried to acivate windows.
It was saying that srevers couldn't be reached ( sth like that) so i activated it by the phone.
avast and Superantspyware also can't connect to server to download updates.
I think that this has nothing to do with IE...

Add ons disabled and still nothing.

Try signing on to a limited account or the guest account do you have the same problem? (I'm thinking malware so if this problem has occurred immediately after the reinstall you can disregard).

I'm having the same problem, and before anyone even tries these pieces of advice....

    IE is up to date
I tried it in firefox too
    windows is up to date
    I cleared internet history
    ran ccleaner
    restarted computer
    reset modem
my copy of windows is genuine
    i've tried turning off firewall
every other single f'ing site in the world works just fine

This problem is truly frustrating because NOTHING GOT CHANGED and all of a sudden one day hotmail decides it wants to quit working.

sigh.. microsoft.. I wish you would just die... they can't make anything work these days. Failures.

I have been wondering if the problem isn't really Google related? I'm beginning to suspect that Google optimized their search engine to fit Google Chrome. At the expence of all other browsers. I would really like to know if people with other combinations have the same problems? Examples: IE+Live Search, FireFox+Live Search...

hi all i think the problem because of cookies and the security in options of iE
just go their and make it medium high

go to option of iE and press security , then make level security of internet medium high

I went to the Hotmail help site and there seems to be a bunch of other people with the exact same problem.

Optimized my browser the way they recommended. + all the other stuff you guys recommended. (except the deal about the hosts files or something?... confusing..) Why should anyone ever have to jimmy with something like that? /slaps head.

Microsoft continues to fail on this problem.... and I have 47 emails piled up that can't be read.

Okay, lets go to RUN and type "cmd" and hit OK. Type in the following command: ipconfig /all

What are your DNS settings? (IP address)

Well... The problem just went away.

Once again nothing got changed between the time when it wasn't working and when it was. The world may never know what happened there.

    meh... oh well.

    Hi

Just as a thought, and as the issue went away quickly as it came, the problem may have existed in the local DNSCache as negative entries can block your going to specific sites and not others, so if happens again try this open cmd prompt (needs to be in admin elevated mode in Vista) and type ipconfig /flushdns

Generally the resolver DNScache sucessfully flushes itself after 24hrs, but odd times doesnt, which is why manually flushing it is a help.
