I've been looking for the cause of an IE 6 delay in connecting. Using either ethernet or wireless, I have a 30 second delay in connecting between the opening of IE and the home page display. I've reloaded xp and removed Norton's Internet and Antivirus, run Spybot and Adaware. Reset all the IE settings to default and checked, as well as I can, xp settings. The computer has a lot of online casino programs, could those be causing the delay? Any other thoughts are appreciated. Should I post the Hijack log?

Is your router set to always-on, or on-demand? Cleared your temporary internet files and cache? If you are near the allowed capacity on those, it will have to do some housecleaning each time it runs.

If it is just a loading delay, you can add /prefetch:1 to the shortcut's command line... right click shortcut, choose properties, and look at the Target

    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

add a space and the /prefetch:1 and it should look something like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /prefetch:1

    then Apply and OK
