Hello forum. I was just wondering if you guys could help me with a problem in my internet explorer. Whenever I type in a web address other than about:blank, I get the "this page cannot be displayed" page and this message at the bottom of the page: res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL/dnserror.htm... (it appears and disappears quickly)

I searched this error in the Software forum for others with similar problems, but so far, Winsockxpfix.exe didn't really help. A buddy of mine gave me the Mozilla firefox program to use as a browser so I can still surf the net, but this is limited since most programs require me to use internet explorer (i.e. bitdefender and panda activescan). I needed a new antivirus program, but these sites won't work unless I use explorer.

I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried clearing the history and cookies yet?
But FF is working at this time?

Within IE, did you reset everything to defaults?
Are ye working offline? I.e. click File, then click "work online".
Is this dial-up or broadband (cable/dsl/sat/fios).

Yes. I tried clearing history and cookies. Yes Firefox is working thats how I can use this forum. Yes everything is set to defaults (i.e. security and privacy tabs in internet options). No, I'm not working offline. In fact, the file drops down to show the "work offline" option. This is broadband connection with DSL by router.

if you dont' need internet explorer, ask a copy of the firefox browser from a friend and install that. It should work.

Did you try resetting the router? So do you also have the same problem as me, with that message at the bottom of the explorer page?
