Set all your options on IE to default and medium on security.

Didn't help. I can open the page but when I click on a link down it goes. Sometimes I can get through a couple pages. No problems on this site though.

Not that I'm asking you to switch, but does firefox work? If it does, then we have narrowed it down to a browser issue. If it doesn't work, then it is an OS issue.

BTW, is there an actual error code? What about the event log? As in:

Start, Run, type in: eventvwr.msc (press enter)

Check under software and system around the time that IE crashed. Does it give you a more info on your error?

Cant try Firefox right now. Here is the event viewer message:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module mshtml.dll, version 6.0.2900.2668, fault address 0x00076934.

    A faulty driver?

Done. Then restarted. Still no good. I get the same error along with fault bucket 203247166.

Also, on this event, what is the event ID?

I assume, you have cleared your cache, and cleard all cookies....

Event ID 1000 is a generic error code. I was afraid you were going to give it.

    As you can see here:

    http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=1000

You have all windows updates, including the ones that came out a few(?) days ago?

    Right. Not much help there.

Right as in you have cleared all cookies and cache? Or right that that link to event id 1000 is the truth that event id 1000 is a useless error id?

Both. The dump bucket code is 1001. I didn't see much useful info on that code either. Thanks for the link. If nothing else I will get some good bookmarks out of all this.

Yet another thing to try, is similar to what Shadow_Puter_Dude suggested. Instead, do the following:

    Start, run, type in:

    regsrv32 /u mshtml.dll

    then

    regsrv32 mshtml.dll

    Does it work now?

    Some other things to try.

In the address bar of IE, type in: res://mshtml.dll/blank.htm (press enter)

Do you have a blank page? if yes, then try this:

Start, run, type in the following:

    rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\system32\mshtml.dll,PrintHTML "%1"

Does the printer dialog pop up?

What I'm doing here is checking to see if mshtml.dll is working properly.

Error says this is not compatible with my verion of IE

    Windows cannot find regsrv32

Blank page and printer dialog both come up as expected.

    Thanks again.

    Windows can't find regsrv32?

    Ugh, I misspelled it.

    I meant to say:

    regsvr32 /u mshtml32.dll
    then
    regsvr32 mshtml32.dll

Yeah I figured that's probably what you meant. Ran that and got:

Load Library ("mshtml32.dll") failed- The specified library could not be found.

Re: Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for

Try the command like this instead:

    regsvr32 /u %SystemRoot%\system32\mshtml.dll

    regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\mshtml.dll

  22. Pat Brown

    Pat Brown Private E-2

Tried it again also tried to put the directory in instead of simply %system Root%. I get this message:

DllUnregisterServer in C:\Windows\System32\mshtml.dll Failed. Return code was: 0x8000ffff.

Not sure if this is related but now links do not work. When I click on a link a blank web page pops up with nothing in the address bar.

    Unistall SP2, then reinstall SP2.
