I am running Win XP (SP3), and a few months ago I upgraded to IE8 from IE 6. Had no issues since the upgrade. But in the past several days, I have had several websites tell me something to the effect that I am using an obsolete browser, that I need to upgrade. One even told me I need to upgrade to IE8! IE-Help>About IE confirms it's version 8.0.6001....Does anybody have any ideas why I'm getting these msgs? Is it just time to upgrade to IE9? I'm not even sure I can run that on this machine (Gateway E4100)

Yes you are getting these messages as you are not using the latest version of Internet Explorer. You'll probably not receive message to upgrade browser if you upgrade to IE9 but You cannot upgrade to IE9 in XP Operating system. IE9 is compatible with Windows 7 or later versions.

You have to upgrade your operating system or switch to other browsers like Opera, Firefox or Chrome.

    Thanks!
