In an attempt to boot IE without a homepage I messed up IExplorer.EXE
Now IE will not stay as my default web browser.
I tried a few basics, like windows update, and I tried to download Internet Explorer 6 Service pack 1. This would not work because it said a newer version of IE was already installed.

I realize I am an idiot, and now I would like some help.

    Thank You

I found a tip saying IE would boot faster without a set homepage, which could be done by changing IExplorer.exe to IExplorer.exe -nohome.
This did not work though, and as soon as I had changed the name of the .exe a new one was created. So I unded the changes I had made, but it did not fix my problem. The real problem now is IE asking me everytime use it if I want to set it as my default browser.

When I try opening IE some other way (such as through MSN or Windows Update) when IE is not already opened in the background, those programs will not work.

I would never use iexplore -nohome. I'd set my defualt home page as about:blank

In your situation, I'd first try to run internet explorer with this:

Start, run, type in iexplore and hit enter...if it works, excellent.

My run programs hasn't worked for some time... I don't know why, but there is almost always another way, so it hasn't bothered me too much.

I tried using Mozilla, but MSN wouldn't open my E-mails in Mozilla, even if it is the default. Also I don't think WinUpdate will open in Mozilla either.

    Mostly Fixed

I ran IEFix and now most of my issues have been resolved. That is a really good program.

Where did you find IEFix? Maybe that is what I need????? My updates won't run. I can't remove Symantec Programs, I can't save SymtNRT to my desktop, etc. I don't know what is going on with my computer? Caroloski
