One of my users is having a problem. He like to have the sites he visits most at his fingertips when he just presses down on the address bar, but it is not populating.

History is set at 20 days and AutoComplete is turned on. Any common issues with this?

    Thanks.

Is he using anything like CCleaner, EmpTemp or Cleanup! ? These will wipe his history. A better idea IMHO is to store the most visited sites in "Your Favourites" and install one or more of these programs to wipe out all the crap you inherit after every net session.

Try these 3, but by default they will wipe your history, etc. Make sure your favourite history sites are saved first. Check out the defaults in each program as you will have to set all 3 to the same defaults, otherwise one of the 3 will wipe out stuff you may want to keep.

I run all 3 every day with standard defaults and save sites in My Favourites if I want to keep them

    Cleanup! http://www.stevengould.org/
    EmpTemp http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=1575

    and CrapCleaner aka CCleaner http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4191

If you don't clean up the crap regularly, you will be amazed at how it grows.
Check out index.dat as an example. Bazza

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced tab.

Under the last heading "Security", scroll down and make sure that "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" is unchecked.

Ok slight update. Thanks for the previous replies.

It seems everything is fine, except when he presses down on the drop down box for the address bar, nothing is there, even though the history is populating and the autocomplete is turned on and works. This is functionality he had and desperately wants back, but I'm not sure what the problem is.

What version of IE? Is it up to date. During a session on the net I assume that the drop down history is available for that session. Is it only gone next time he logs in, or does it vanish during a session? Bazza

Yeah, it's there during that session, but when he logs off again, they are gone. I'm starting to think it's a group policy issue, but I can never find the right setting when I need it.

And yeah, everything is up to date.

    Thanks,
