Internet Explorer Problem...

Win XP - Home - IE 6 (I think)

Internet Explorer is exhibiting some problems. When I click on IE Help and then About IE I do not get anything for the Version, Cipher Strength or the Product ID. Also, the OK button does not function and I have to click on the "X" in the upper right hand corner to close the About window.

Friend had someone 'look' at their system because it appeared to be running slow. This person then removed all the Anti-Syware apps (AdAware, Spybot)
and installed "Maxthon" as the browser.

Friend then could not access many web sites that they typically use (Online Banking, iwon.com). He then used "Add/Remove Programs" to remove Maxthon and tried to go back to IE.

IE will access some sites (yahoo.com, netscape.com) but appears to just hang (nothing appears on screen - no error message) on the Online Banking site and with iwon.com.

I downloaded the Netscape browser and can access all the problem sites using Netscape.

This appears to be an issue with IE settings/configuration - can this be corrected? Or is there an easy way to complete remove IE from the machine and then reinstall IE from microsoft.com?

Also, cannot access "Help and Support" either. I click on it and the drive starts to whir and then nothing. I was going to try to use the System Restore to restore to a point where the systen ran OK but I cannot get to the System Restore wizard.

Im a little confused why he removed the Anti-Syware apps. That might be your problem the spyware. Then giving you Maxthon as a browser wasn't exactly a good tip i would have said Firefox. Im just throwing this out there it might also be a virus of some sorts.
