Ok....I have just been through all the threads relating to IE issues and tried everything I could find. Was hopeful IEFix might have done something to help but it didnt. My problem is IE 6 sp2 wont work since major trojan problems. All those were removed and everything is now working again (Thanks to Chaslang). I still cant get IE to open any pages. Every time I try to reinstall IE6 I get the following message.
"A Previous installation has pending work requiring a reboot. You need to restart your computer to complete that installation before running internet explorer setup. Setup will now close."
I have rebooted several times and I keep getting the same message. I must get ie working as I need to access a page that I cant do with firefox. I cant download anything from microsoft as I keep getting the message that I need to be using IE to download from the site.
I am running XPsp2 with all updates, Latest firefox, Avast and zone alarm. I have tried turing everything off during the install process but it didnt make any difference. Help!!!

Reset your Internet Explorer settings to their original defaults. I would also check the Internet Explorer should check the default browser box.

    1. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

    2. Click the Programs tab.

    3. Click the Reset Web Settings button.

OK. Went back and read your thread in the Malware section.

    1. For the Office issue, download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility here, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

Here is an explanation of the tool if you need it. Just run it for the applications you are having trouble with, in your case, Office.

    2. What "exactly" does IE do when you try and use it? Are you getting a "page cannot be displayed" OR "Action cancelled", what happens?

    Hi Steve.
I Have office all fixed..its just IE thats not playing the game. It does nothing at all....acts like its going to load a page but i just get a white screen with the hourglass cursor for ever. I looked at view text size last night and nothing was ticked..I also checked encoding and it said there was none. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but im still getting the same message that another installation requires a reboot but Ive tried that about 20 times with no effect. When I run IEFix I get a lot of errors saying it cant find certain files but I can find them on my XP cd...looks like the program cant read them for some reason. I have gone through every type of fix I found in the forums with no luck. Im not getting any error messages at all from IE...just looks like its loading but nothing happens.

Have you tried the steps below?

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):

    • Shdocvw.dll
    • Actxprxy.dll
    • Oleaut32.dll
    • Mshtml.dll
    • Browseui.dll
    • Shell32.dll

Windows XP and Windows 2000 only
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.
