internet explorer question

    xp home IE6 ver 6.0.29 sp2
    when i type a url in the address bar e.g. msn.com or www.msn.com it does not work for a very long time or just gets stuck but if i type http://www.msn.com it works normally. is there a preference key or a registry key turned off or something like that going on thanks.
