internet explorer will not auto dial my connectiom

I have windows XP. I used to be able to double click my IE icon and directly connect, also on my quick launch IE icon. I can still connect through my Outlook Express quick launch. What has happened? I have tried all I can thing of to fix it. When I click on IE it only brings up the web page, asks if I want to connect, then won't try to connect at all.

 

Open IE, click tools and click options.
On the connections tab, locate your connection of choice. Make sure it is set as default, and that you have the radio button next to 'always dial my default connection'

You should have to open IE once more and provide the user ID and password, specifying that IE saves them for you. Should be just two little check boxes.

 

Okay, tried that, was set to always dial my connection, my connection set as default, reentered password, checked both boxes, still can only connect through quick launch Outlook Express, or by going through start, setttings, network connections, and click on my ISP then click connect.

 

Open network connections (right click my network places and click properties), and click Create new connection in the network tasks.

Fill out the info for you ISP, set this connection as default, and see what IE does.

 

Re installed my connection, still did not dial from the IE icon, and always dial my default connection is checked. Could it be an IE problem I have? Why would one program connect and not another?

 

It can't hurt to try re-installing it and/or updating it!
