Internet Explorer Windows

Alright I'm having trouble whenever I open a new Internet Explorer Window with it taking way too long to load. No matter what it is and from time to time it'll freeze and never load nor allow me to close it. I started having these problems when some unknown pop-ups (normally adverstising virus removal programs) appear with me just visiting sites I normally visit and haven't had them before. Is there anything that'll directly remove or investigate my problem areas?
