Internet explorer won't start

When I try to start internet explorer it won't start. All I see is the hour glass and the the mouse returns back to it's regular state. Also when I click on My Computer explorer.exe restartes meaning all the folders I have open and icons and start bar go away and then come back. Also When I triued to run trend micros virus scan on Mozilla Firefox when I leave and come back it all goes away. (I guess when it goes into stanby mode it goes away.)

 

Are you using Windows 2000 and are you getting any error messages?

No, windows XP. And unfortunally no error messages.
