Internet Explorer

IE has started acting a little weird. It will load some pages, and give me the web page not available screen for others. It will then sometimes load those pages on the second or third try, but sometimes not even after a dozen tries.

These are pages like CNN.com, and CBC.ca. Nothing obscure.

Then, this morning, when I clicked on my CNN link in the toolbar, it opened a white page with no text, about half the size of the monitor. Closely followed by another one, and then another. It opened about two a second all slightly off centre to the last one, until I turned my computer off. It was like winning at solitaire.

Any ideas why that might happen?

I have Firefox, but I'd rather not have to "get used to it" if I don't have to. And my Missus definitely won't like it.

When was the last time you scanned for viruses and other malware?

 

I check weekly with Spybot S&D, and I have Spywareblaster on. AVG 8 runs daily.

And it hasn't happened since I posted. Whatever it is must have heard of Major Geeks.

If you (or anyone else) has any thoughts, I'd like to hear them for interests sake, and in case it happens again.

Hmm. You might want to also download Malwarebytes and SUPERAntispyware from this site, and run them too. They are not realtime scanners and won't conflict with the good protection you already have. I suggest this only because what you described sounded like popups to me, and all the programs seem to catch slightly different stuff. (The page not available messages could easily just be a brief interruption in your interent connection).

I like the idea that computer gremlins could be scared away when the computer owner visits MajorGeeks!!
