My internet explorer Obviously is old and out of date. But to update things I get confused Like do I download the update? And it installs automatically? So what I was going to do was uninstall explorer and reinstall the newest, Which I believe is 8 Ive seen some post about it being out and good, and safe. SO heres my question my computer was formated/fixed crappy and sense then it has expolerer twice on the destop and both works, but when I go to add/remove its not there to uninstall it. Also I go to add/remove system component and selected internet explorer and it gave me error saying something about files couldn't be loaded so I hurry'd and stop the processing and they still work. So any thoughts of how to get rid of so I can reinstall the newest? And also is this new one really safe or no?

If you download IE8 (from MS updates) and install, it will automatically replace the one on your PC and if you still have 2 versions uninstall the second.

    HI

IE8 well mixed reviews and for me its working fine and safe as any other browser as the main cluprit to malware is the user and where they surf! I do also use Firefox and Opera so have no allegence to any browser, I just find IE easy to use.

As for uninstalling you should not need to as installing the latest version uninstalls the previous one and as a concequence you then gain an uninstaller in add/remove to revert to older version if you dont like the new one.

You may end up as you said with an older icon on desktop and this can be deleted if you wish.

I tried going to the link and that's what I did before. I selected just internet explorer then NEXT. Then it loads and comes up as error... saying "setup was unable to build a list of files to copy from"msn explorer" the specific error is 0xe0000102 setup will continue but the component may not function properly"

Edit - Also forgot to tell ya that when I go into the component part of XP and I see the size of internet explorer Its 0.

I went to that link downloaded the one for XP Internet Explorer 8. It then saved to destop, I open and ran it.. it installed itself then installed updates.. then check for malware, and then finished setup. Also it took a long time on the installing itself I don't know if thats normal.. but just saying. Anyways it did installed. And after it installed theres no (new) internet explorer icon on my destop.. So maybe it copied over the other old one? But the IE8 Window install thingy is still on destop :( Also finally I got 2 icons that was there to begin with both was named internet but now it changed.. and the icons are now a darker bright blue with gold O around it (now labeled internet explorer) which it was just internet.. and then the other one is a light faded blue no gold ring around it and its called Internet(and on the bottom left is a small white box with arrow) maybe means its copy of 1st one or something? And finally in my add/remove is now the new internet explorer 8. So my question is.. How do I know I got 8 on here correctly? And the two I have on there now I want to get rid of 1 or both? So what can I do?

I didn't know if that was extra Icon or what.. SO I didn't want to get rid of it. But yes thanks for helping my clear it up.
