Internet issues

    My boss gave me a PC to look at because it cannot get online, he suspects the network card but after troubleshooting and working on it for a while, Firefox works, IE and Chrome do not. Also, windows update was working because I came in to a message saying pc was restarted due to updates. What is causing IE and Chrome to not work, there is no proxy setup in either one, I have run SUPER Antispyware, Malwarebytes, and Hitman Pro and they all found something small, but nothing significant.
    Any ideas?

    What error does IE throw up (also what version of IE) ?

    I do not run chrome so I can't offer any help with that.

    It comes up page cannot be displayed, like its not even trying to, on the bottom left I see it show the dnserror but if it was a DNS error, then why does Firefox and Windows Update work? If it truely was then no internet or network activity would work correct?

    Click on file in IE and be sure work offline has NOT been selected.

    IE and Chrome are doing the same exact thing though, its not in offline mode.

    Start the run and type in cmd and press enter.
    Next type this
    Code:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
    and press enter.
    What it does: resets the Winsock catalog to the default configuration.

    Last type this
    Code:
    netsh int ip reset reset.log
    and press enter.
    What it does: resets the TCP/IP stack to installation defaults.
    Reboot the computer.

    Sometimes if a computer had malware, cleaning it off affects both the Winsock and TCP/IP settings.
