internet just died

Hey everyyone, i have a problem....for no reason (at least not that i know of) my laptop downstairs cant connect to the internet. The modem is upstairs and my pc's internet works just fine. Ive tried the troubleshooting guide that came with the network adapter (2Wire hardware, SBC Yahoo DSL) and besides reinstalling the drivers, nothing has worked, including my own troubleshooting. Im really thinking that i need to reinstall the drivers but am yet to find the cd hahaha....typical...any other ideas besides get off ur @$$ and find the cd?

 

If your modem is hooked up via ethernet/Cat-5e, you do not need drivers. Is it connected via USB or Cat-5e?

Have you tried shutting everything down (modem included), and rebooting to see if it will correct? Have you made sure all teleco devices have filters on them?

 

yeah everything has filters, the modem is connected to me via ethernet but downstairs it is USB. Im not aware that anything has changed but ill try rebooting the whole network

 

If it is downstairs via USB, that is where the problem is. What is happening if one computer is connected via Ethernet, and the other is via USB, the modem can sometimes get confused. Also you have two networks running on the modem that way.

I would connect everything via Ethernet (this means getting a switch), and go that route.

 

well it has been working just fine with no problems for a lil over a year...what coulda happened?

 

Conflict with the USB and ethernet is my guess.

 

fixed it. I FINALLY found the driver cd and reinstalled everything. all better
