Well I'm not sure exactly what I need. I have an employee that has usage on his Att card that goes over his 5gig a month. He does the same stuff on his laptop that everyone else does and others average 3gig a month. I have spoken to him about it and he swore up and down he has no idea why. I told him I will most likely put a monitor on his computer and he has no problems with it. I have no reason not to believe him. I would like software to monitor usage by program, my thought is there is something going in the background we don't know about. Pleas help and thanks in advance.

I don't know of a software to do what you are looking for but there are a lot of things that can cause such a difference. The cache settings on the computers could be part of it. If the offending computer has a low temporary internet files cache, it would have to download a lot more information because it's not being allowed to store it on the computer. Also if the user is using the refresh button in the browser a lot, it forces the computer to re-download the entire page.

Another thing that can cause a lot of unnecessary traffic are addons in the browsers. In IE if you turn off the search engine tips it can save a lot of bandwidth if they are using the search engines.

Also limit the number of search engines, toolbars and IM programs.

Also turn off all auto-updaters such a Windows Updates, Java Updates, Adobe Updates and any other auto updates. They can be done manually when connected to a wired connection.
