    Hi All,

I've been requested to start monitoring the time spent online of a couple of our users. Right now, we don't care WHERE they are going, only if they aren't spending too much time online. (For work delegation purposes). However, if they are found to be spending too much time, then we would like to know where, so I suppose our solution should provide both. This also has to be transparent to the user. Our users are all running WinXP Pro SP2. We use a DSL internet connection through a Cisco PIX router. I'm not certain which is the best route to go, whether through a proxy server, or with network analysis software. Any recommendations?

    Regards,

    Milty

Seems to be a sad fact of business these days ....surfing the web rather than doing the job ....what can you do?

Yeah, its true, I guess. I still feel like a hypocrite.

I just tried out this app...not what we need. It only shows the connections on a LOCAL machine, and is not transparent. This would be a good choice if it gave the option to monitor a remote machine...or three....

    Sorry, this isn't it either.
This monitors shared folders, not internet connections.

Ummm...snapfiles seem to be peddling software that does things that Windows can already do...

Whoisconnected gives you the output of netstat -ano (although it is in a pretty GUI)

Sharewatch gives you the output of the 'Open Files' section of the computer management console.

Thanks for your help, Tim, but I'm quickly losing faith in this site you keep linking me to...:(

Question, it's pretty common practice to open a web page, then go back to business with the page open in the back ground. Is time like this considered still using the internet, or is some other standard (such as time spent with web page in forground with mouse moving).

Because we have some real idiots at my place of work, folks who will NOT stay away from adware sites (on computers that are also machine controllers) they have banned internet, period. I comply, but I don't like it. Some of these same idiots don't though, and we have to have intranet due to all the various functions we use, checklists, assembly instructions, whatnot. So this is of some interest to me.

I've busted my boy more than once by going over the logs in the computer. A picture viewed is a picture saved on the computer, complete with time/date stamp. I've actually become pretty proficient with malware because of his casual habits, although I <hope> I have finally gotten the message across. I love removable hard drive bays. ;)
