Is your browser set to work off line?? That's in the File drop down menu.

Is your browser set to use a proxy? Go to: Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings and make sure none of the boxes are checked.

Using Windows XP I assume. How are you connecting? I'm guessing a router, but assumptions will just lead to wasted time and effort. In order to give good advice, we need to know how you are connecting.

How do you know your internet is fine? Are other computers connecting? Is an internet application working but you aren't able to browse with Internet Explorer or another browser?

Your comment about "connection to..207.blah and all these diff ip numbers.." sure sounds like it's trying to connect to a proxy server.

What is your home page set to?

Have you tried going to any other pages? What was the result.

Try pinging someone from the command prompt. Go to Start > Run > type "cmd" and hit enter > type "ping yahoo.com" and hit enter. Let us know what the result is.

Did you check the proxy settings? Also, are you able to ping your default gateway? You can get this by running ipconfig from the command prompt.

Hi, i do not understand very well so i will try to help you.

As i understand you want to connect through a wireless modem with your laptop.

I guess you have something like this:

Now. The first step is to connect you laptop to the correct wireless, i assume you already did it, and you have correctly installed the wireless network card.

As you will see, maybe you used "ipconfig" to know if your computer have a IP, it must have one "LOCAL IP" even if you got one that doesn't means you can go straight to internet, let me explain you how it works.

Look this picture and continue reading.

That was a basic home network, now, the Modem is the only one with a public IP (in the majority of cases) so it manage "what computer is going to internet and what does not".

The Modem, restrict access via Wireless because, if you have a "bit of brain" anyone with a wireless can use your network conecction making it slow and that is not good for you.

So the modem restrict wireless access, and how it do that?

Easy, there's something called "MAC Adress" every network card (wireless or Cable) have one.

Type in Start > Run > cmd > ipconfig -all

Check for you Physical Address and see if you added it correctly into the modem configuration.

Well, modem have a configuration set up when you can decide what MAC address is able to navigate to internet through your network.

Try calling to your internet service provider and ask for configurate your wireless, they have to help you with this.

I guess you do not know how to access to your modem.

Let me tell you something, connect your laptop via cable to the modem and i guess you will have internet.
