Internet or router kicks out

Our internet service seems to be going in and out. Have had servece guys from Charter out who went over all the connections and even have a new modem. We are using an older Belkin wireless router (2.4GHz - 802.11g Wireless with high speed mode). We will have good access to the net one time, and the next time have to disconnect the modem and router, let them sit for a minute, reconnect them and all will be well. I can be on with my laptop, and my wife will try to connect and it won't let her and vise versa.

I did read in another post about turning off the power save option on my laptop. I'll check my wife's and do the same for her's as well.

Not sure if it's where we live that our ISP's signal is getting stopped, or what may cause our modem cut out. We pay extra for faster speed as well so it's getting frustrating. There are times I'll call (and get thru all the hoops just to talk to someone) and once they access our modem all will be well, for a while.

We also have an airrave for our cell phones which will go out as well. Nothing like living in the boonies.

Is this a problem with our equipment, or our ISP at fault?

What do you mean by this? Everything is good for a longer period and then the drop outs occur again?
If the problem always goes away after they check the modem, I would say it is the ISP's fault in some way even if it is a new modem.

You might try to see if there is a firmware update for your Belkin router.
Also, the router could be showing it's age if you've had it for awhile.
Do you have a lot of power outages in your area? That may have degraded the router over the long run.

"for a while." Like the next day. LOL! It's an almost daily occurance.

I was thinking the router might be the culprit. My old Linksys quit after several years, and we found this belkin router stashed away, hooked it up and it worked. It may be the culprit.
