Internet problem

Hi, I'm having a problem with my internet. When I am surfing the web sometimes the page won't load and it will act like I no longer have an internet connection but I do. I know this for two reasons. One if I have a video loading (youtube) the video will keep loading, or if I'm downloading something (legally) it will keep downloading. Two I will go down and check my router and it will show I still have internet. I have been having this problem for awhile now and it's starting to bother me. I was wondering what's wrong and how to fix it. By the way this happens no matter what browser I'm using.

I can tell you that it's happened on both my computers. What makes that odd though is when I got my brand new computer it happened within the first day of having it. It also happens on the two other computers that are used on my network.

 

first you should confirm that this problem is not coming from the internet service provider's end. the most obvious way to do this is to connect to the modem directly with a computer. you -might- have to do a MAC address clone or call the ISP to do this (if you have comcast you don't). if the problem persists there then your modem may be faulty or the ISP has an issue (or that computer happens to have a jabbering network card. using the new computer to do this is the best idea)

it might be a jabbering network card on one of the computers hogging up the traffic. try not having all of the computers running on the network simultaneously, just have one connected at a time and see if the problem then persists with individual computers.

lastly, consider that your router may be going bad. i've found that sometimes strange problems like what you described will occur when the router is dying. it will work fine for certain activities then break for others.
