Their recently was a storm and the power to the house went out for 3 seconds. The computer was already turned off at this time. The next day when I tried to connect to the internet it said the a jack was unplugged.

I called my internet service provider (Knology) and they told me to buy a new ethernet cable. I did this and had the same problem. jack unplugged.

I called them back and they asked if the lights on the onboard connecter were on. They weren't and it was determined that the onboard ethernet connecter was fried.

I bought a new ethernet connecter (Realtek RTL8 139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC) plugged in the cable and it said I had a netwrok connection.

I tried to connect to the internet and it says can't display the webpage. I called Knology back and they sent out a tech. He plugged in his laptop and was able to connect to the internet right away.

He ran some test was able to determine that I can connect to the internet if I knew the IP addresses. But if I try to use www.whatever.com I only get can't display webpage.

I have tried to connect without the windows firewall, turned off my antivirus, dropped to the security internet options down to nothing and still can't get online. None of my updates work except to my main antivirus (Avira free version)

I have run all my antivirus programs (Super Anti spyware, MalwareBytes, Avira, Advanced System Cleaner and Ccleaner, Malicious Software removal tool as well) and even though they have found some things and removed them it still won't connect.

I have checked my WMI settings to see if they had been turned off and they were all set the way they always have been.

I am at my wits end on trying to figure this out and hoping someone on here can help.

I did also hook my kids computer up to the same modem and it connects fine to the internet. It is their computer I am using right now to connect and try to find an answer. I also did unplug my modem and battery from the modem and let them sit and reset for 10 seconds and up to 1 minute sometimes every time I tried to hook the computer up and reconnect.

    Any help would be appreciated

Computer is a Dell Dimension 3000 running XP

Anything relating to networking has some kind of 'spooky' element attached to it ;)

I'm pleased to read that you've got it fixed :)
