Hello. I'm a newbie and have a question that hopefully only requires a simple solution. ;) Whenever I try to visit the website Linkshare (http://www.linkshare.com) I get an alert window that states The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.linkshare.com. and this is really bad because I need to visit Linkshare. Thanks in advance for your help!

    Michael,

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

When did this start happening? What kind of firewall are you using and have you changed any of the settings lately?

Have you added / installed anything recently?

Also, what is your operating system and current updates.

    Thanks Steve.

I would say this has been happening for several months now but I'm just now complaining about it. :p I have eTrust EZ Armour for my anti-virus and firewall. I haven't changed any settings. I've installed stuff throughout the time it's happened. I can't remember what the last thing was before it started. I have WindowsXP and I use Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Explorer. I'm not sure what you mean by "current updates."

OK. What I mean by current updates is have you installed Service Pack 2 (SP2) it has a built-in firewall that could interfere with the one you have installed.

Second, what happens ( do you get the same results ) using Firefox?

Third, how long have you had eTrust EZ Armour and what did you have before?

I don't think I have the SP2 installed. Same results with Firefox. I've had eTrust for about a month and before that I had McAfee and before that I had Norton.

I would try disabling the eTrust firewall and see if you can access the site. There might be something there blocking this particular site, could be something as simple as a pop-up, spam, or ad blocking feature in eTrust or another program you have installed to block certain things.

Also, make sure that when you uninstalled McAfee and whatever firewall you were using that you got all of them off your system.
