Currently I am using TrendMicro, but am wondering if there are other programs I can use for Internet Security.
Now, sadly I don't have a big budget, so I am wondering what alternatives there are.

Apologies if there is a thread about this elsewhere, I must've missed it then.

You do not ever need to pay for security software.
See the top freeware pics on Majorgeeks.
My preferred full suite after many many years of use on all OSs from XP to 10 is:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/comodo_internet_security.html
    Comodo IS.
Just make sure you do a custom install and uncheck search page, search engine and geek buddy options.

Sorry for the late reply, sharing 1 computer is a nightmare..

I'll look into those links that you so kindly provided - thank you :)

As for sites: Had issues with certain sites before - thankfully NOT my computer, took me couple of days to get that nonsense sorted and the other computer running properly again.

Your best security is YOU, run noscript and pay attention to what you do.
    I second Strulbrug with MBytes.

Sorry for bringing this topic back to life (seems I forget more than ever lately..):

I have IOBit installed on my pc, would that work too?
(Am a bit confused about all these programs these days.. not as simple as it used to be)

Iobit what exactly? There are multiple different IoBit programs - uninstallers, optimizers, driver updaters etc IoBit is just the name of the developer
If you mean IoBit Malware Fighter, then it's fine to use as an additional resource but it is not a conventional real-time Anti Virus program and shouldn't be used alone.

Layered protection is full protection. MaxTurner's advice is good for CIS. Start there. Next you can take a look at internet browser extensions. Which are available depends on which browser you use. You can ask which are best here in this thread if you like, but the first one to look for is a good site blocker that warns you of potentially bad sites. If you use Firefox, BluHell Firewall is very good. After that there are good programs that help protect the system if you make a mistake and allow something to run that you shouldn't. For example, there are anti-ransomware programs that are very effective at protecting your files and some are free also.

I use a program called AppCheck for anti-rw, so it's the program I recommend for this purpose . It's the best I have seen, and blocks all known ransomware with the exception of Petya. Petya destroys the boot sector, so that Windows is unbootable. Only pay software will block it as far as I know, although there is a way to protect the master boot record. It's kind of on a deeper level, though. Anyway, Petya is rare, and it still must get rhrough CIS, which is no small feat.

You can have a secure PC for free as Max said.

Hi my friend , the best antivirus protester is you , you are controlling your searches on the Web , be careful what site you visit , as DOA suggested you before , my favorite antivirus is either Avira ( which i am using ) or Panda

    Microsoft's own Security Essentials.
I have used many firewalls in my past. I now just use Microsofts own firewall.
    It's good enough.

Firefox with NoScript add on extension in private mode - good for banking transactions.
    Anti-virus? Too many popular ones.

What kind of security are you looking for in your pc?
    Firewall?
    Anti-virus?
    or
    spyware protection?

Spybot from safer-networking.org works for me. It's an all in one but not totally free.
I pay for the pro version.

First of all: Thank you, all, for your replies :)

I run Xp on my PC, no longer supported by Windows, sadly..
IoBit is Malware fighter, so it's only part of the prevention.

I can use Windows firewall, or can revert to using ZoneAlarm (used it for many years, with no regrets).
Antivirus is the only thing "missing", so to speak. Used to use Hitman pro, consisted of a bundle of programs working together, but can't find it anymore (or I mis-looked).

I've had Comodo before, but that is about 13 years ago.. didn't go too well back then, but am more than happy to give it a go again :)

As for controlling what's done on the web.. We're both using the PC, I don't have full control over visited sites at this point. Should be only temporary, but still.. better safe than sorry (don't want to end up fighting my own computer for weeks again).

Honestly, for years I have used Avast for my antivirus needs. It has served me well, and I haven't had a single infection.

I've gone for Comodo on the PC, considering putting it on my own little laptop too.
Installed it on a friend's laptop as well, she needed a good program but (like me) doesn't have the budget to buy them (she got the laptop from someone as a gift).

I used Avast for the tablet, worked well from what I could tell. Think a friend is / was using it, too.

I thank you, all, for your replies, suggestions and tips :D
    You've been wonderful again :D

Do take a look at Comodo's other features apart from AV and firewall. I particularly like and use Secure Shopping as it's a safe sandboxed environment for all financial stuff.
