internet Security Program

    Hi Peeps, ive just downloaded the following proggies from Majorgeeks
    AV - Avast
    Anti - Spyware - Ad-aware
    Defrag - Diskeeper
    Backup - using windows backup
    General disk/system cleanup - CrapCleaner
    Registry maintenance - Reg Cleaner

    Before i uninstall Norton Anti Virus, Norton Systemworks and Norton Internet Security, is there any other proggies anyone can recommend? Do i need a replacement instead of NIS?

    A firewall such as ZoneAlarm is a definite must.

    And SpywareBlaster will help keep the nasties off your machine.

    Oh yeah, you might want to look at RegSupreme for a
    registry cleaner -- it's lightning fast whit three levels of search mode.

    Do i need RegSupreme, spybot, CWShredder,Stinger, aswell as all of these?

    Spyware Blaster
    Zone Alarm
    AV - Avast
    Anti - Spyware - Ad-aware
    Defrag - Diskeeper
    Backup - using windows backup
    General disk/system cleanup - CrapCleaner
    Registry maintenance - Reg Cleaner

    It seems to be a lot of proggies

    Heres the thing. All programs often use different routines. If your happy with the performance of the programs you chose, you will be fine. People here prefer, for example, one of 3 or 4 registry cleaners. Whats best is debateable. What you should have is 2 spyware programs though, as one may detect and remove items another does not.

    CWShredder, Stinger and similar small standalone programs are just that. Small tools for a specific job in case your current tools fail. They should be used only if you can not remove certain Coolweb hijacks or trojans. Thats all they are for.
