    Hi,

Sorry I didn't know which forum to post this in.

I am looking for a new internet security suite. I use Norton internet security 2006. I am happy with the program except that it seems to be a resource hog. I have heard that McAfee is just as bloated. Are all suites as bloated? I connect to the internet with a DSL connection. I have been told that modems and routers have built in firewalls so i would not need to have a software firewall. I have also read that hardware firewalls are unidirectional and software firewalls are bidirectional. I am not sure in this day and age that I would trust just a unidirectional firewall. I am thinking about going with PC-Cillin from Trend Micro. I was also wondering if anyone had an opinion about bitdefender internet security. I just went to their site and seems to be a solid program, I am just wondering if it is as resource hungry as norton. I would really like to hear some opinions on these issues. Thank you in advance for any advise.

Yes, most suites come with alot of programs and therefore, take up alot of memory and bog your system down.

Yes, most routers have built-in firewalls, but I would not recommend using the hardware firewall as your only line of protection.
here is a good comparison between hardware and software firewalls

I would not get any internet security suites and would rather download 2-3 programs that would be just as effective, if not better for protection.
We have an excellent list here for protection as well as other handy programs
