hi guys! i'm new here, anyway, i have a laptop (win xp) with built in wi-fi that accesses internet thru my friend next door who is the main subscriber and has wireless router. i would like to connect my desktop(win xp) to the internet as well but i dont know how to do this because it doesnt have a wireless adapter card but i do have an ethernet cable and a linksys broadband router 802.11/b which i havent used. i tried connecting my laptop and desktop thru that router and was able to share files except internet. sorry for the lengthy info, really appreciate any help from anyone. thanks!

Very easy way ,,they sell TINY usb wirless cards for about 30 bucks on sale,,, plug it into your tower and your wirless on the tower also !!! ..just one idea,,,you may be able to share the internet from your laptop with a link to your desktop as well,,,hard wired,,,from usb to firewire if you have one on your laptop,,,,,Glenn...PS welcome to the MG site, Glenn...

Eack machine has a MAC address and a name,,,if you enable file sharing on both systems,,,and they can see each other thats a great start,,,are they both XP operating systems ,,,run the connection wizard ,,,and see what it brings up,,,may have to configure the MAC address in each computer ...I will do some further searching to find a website to tell you how to set up,,,Glenn,,LOL I seldome give up LOL
