Hey everyone! First post here :)

I got back from France last weekend and turned on my computer which had been working fine before my trip and the internet speed was literally none existent.

It can take upto 30 minutes for a page to load sometimes and it's just not reliable e.g. a page might load then you click a link on it and it takes a while to just bring up the "This page cannot be displayed" page.

Uploading and downloading to/from websites has the similar problems.

MSN Messenger may shed some light on the problem, I can rarely connect to the service and when I do I am frequently disconnected and reconnected so none of my messages ever go through. The connection troubleshooter comes up with different problems each time, although it's always one of these three; IP, Default Gateway and Proxy Server (even though I do not connect to the internet via a proxy... I don't think so anyway).

All the other computers on my home network are connecting fine to the internet so it must be something specific to mine.

Does anyone have any ideas as to tools I could use to find the problem?

If you feel that you have some sort of infection causing the slowdown in your interent then please follow the steps below:

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

and remember to attached also the logs from Bitdefender and Panda Scan ( Step 6 ) as well as the HJT log ...Thanks.

Once completed and you find something or think you have a Malware problem then we can move this thread to Malware forum.

you can also try a quick step to clear the DNS resolver cache which sometimes has soem bad corrupt entries in it which can slow down and give you constant "page not found errors"

Goto Start > Accessories > Command prompt and type ipconfig /flushdns then try again with the interent, if not sucessfull then please follow the guide above verbatim.
