Internet sound not working

I think this is pretty weird, but apperantly this problem has happened to a bunch of people on my campus: the sound on the internet is not working. the classic "it doesn't work!" keeps coming from my little sis every day, and I think it's time for a stop. the problem is, that the sound on the internet won't work, but when you play a music file on windows media or something like that it it will play. but here is what I think is the weird part: when I watch movies on the internet, the video will play, but the audio won't. Can anyone help me?

You mention on your campus - is the problem one that many people on the campus are facing at home or one that they are facing in relation to computer use on campus? If it's possibly related to campus, contact your technical support group for the campus - it shouldn't cost you anything. You should be able to find an email address for them somewhere on the campus website.

Questions to consider in connection with a possible campus problem:
Are people only getting this problem with campus machines? Are they getting it when using their own computers attached to the campus network? Are they getting it on their own computers when accessing campus sites but not other sites? Is it a problem that persists on personally owned computers that have been attached to the campus network? Can people use their own computer on a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to the campus and what happens when they do? (Using VPN gives you the same type of access that you would have sitting on a campus machine but from your home computer at home. For example, I don't have access to my uni student drive or our resources drives from home unless I use VPN but with it I can drop a copy of my assignment into the correct electronic mail box or grab any resources I forgot to bring home.)

If you think it could be campus related, give your tech support group all the information you can - the above is a starting point for you - they will have more questions after that.

 

Yes a few people on campus have had this problem, but I don't think it has any problem with my network at home or at school because I can connect with it just fine and I can browse normally, but whenever I try to play music or video files on the internet like games or youtube videos it won't work.

I did install TrendMicro virus software a while before, and I think this started to happen after that. that was about a year ago. I also tried using the support group on campus and they couldn't help me, and I also tried emaschenes support online and nothing they did help. this problem not only is prevalent on campus sites, but also on any other site that plays music or video. the only exception to this is to play live radio stream. My older brother said that there is some kind of "audio switch" that turns on the music on the internet but he refuses to help me fix it because like all brothers, he is a jerk.

Anyways, a lot of people use the school network, but as I said only a few people I know on campus have this problem like me. I have tried to system restore, install a new sound device, and check the master volume, and no, it isn't muted.

 

Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced tab, under Multimedia make sure there is a check mark next to Play sounds in web pages...

 

Yeah, I have already tried that. I do use Mozilla Firefox, but the problem is prevalent also on internet explorer.

 

The sound is still not working. Can anyone help me?
