Internet speed help.

About to get internet service through Bell South and would like to know what the difference in the speeds are. There is DSL Lite at Up to 256 Kbps/
128 Kbps for $24.95 then FastAccess DSL Ultra at Up to 1.5 Mbps/
256 Kbpst for $32.95 then FastAccess DSL Xtreme at Up to 3 Mbps/
384 Kbps for $37.95 and last FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 at Up to 6 Mbps/
512 Kbps for $46.95. I buy songs from iTunes and i will be using an internet camera to see and talk to loved ones in Japan. Don't do any of that on line gaming stuff. All input appreciated. Thanks!

 

A 512 Kbps connection would allow you to download at approximately 50 KB/s, to a possible maximum of 64 KB/s.

Do any of them have download limits, penalties or any fine print?

 

No. No limits. Was wanting to use the 1.5 Mbps/ 256 Kbpst for $32.95. How would that handle the video camera? And on that subject, what is a decent camera to use? I get 2 Creative VF-0050 cameras for free or $50 rebate when i sign up for BellSouth. I only need 1 camera though.

 

Free's good, you can always sell the other one (or even both).

When you say 1.5 Mbps/ 256 Kbps, what exactly do you mean?

Is the connection 1.5 Mbps, and 256 Kbps upstream, or is it a 1.5 Mbps connection, and it's throttled to 256 kbps?

Anyway, most broadband connections are suitable for streaming video, just don't expect to be downloading in the background unless you have a super fast plan (video streaming consumes heaps of bandwith).
