This may be an issue with my ISP but while I wait for them to respond to my email regarding this I thought I'd see if I could get an idea of what might be causing my issue from the forum. I tried calling tech support but Mr "Paul" Maharajesh at my ISP seemed to be having trouble understanding what I was telling him so I gave up.

    So here's the issue:
About 2 hours ago I was surfing the web and my modem disconnected momentarily before reconnecting. After reconnecting my service felt abnormally slow. So I dialed up the D-Link DSL-G604T's IP address in Internet Explorer to check my connection status.

At this point I;d love to upload a screen shot of the ADSL status page but at the speed I'm working with it'll be tomorrow before the Picture loads up.

The info I received was a shockingly low Data Rate of 94kbps down and 464 up. My SNR Margin was 12dB for both down and up while my line Attenuation read 30dB down and 20dB up.

My first reaction was to reset my modem. I did so via Explorer by asking it to "Save and Reboot". After reconnecting I got the exact same figures. I did this a second time with the exact same result.

Next I tried to power off the modem. Let it sit for 30 seconds and powered it back on. From this point on my modem wouldn't connect at all. After running the D-Link Wizard three times it finally connected. This time however the ADSL Status read:
SNR Margin 8dB down and 12dB up
Line Attenuation: 31dB down and 20dB up
Data Rate: 64kbps down and 384kbps up

I am 100% sure I haven't exceeded my usage quota and as a result been shaped/ throttled (even when I have been in the past my modem status still shows data rates of 6000kbps down or so although my speeds are actually much slower)

So I'm hoping this is an ISP issue although I do know there's a possibility that my old D-Link has finally kicked the bucket after so many years of faithful service... I just wonder why the upstream is considerably higher than the downstream?

    Thanks in advance guys

    HI

That does seem to sound like an ISP issue, the up and down figures can vary as the issue at the exchange or somewhere onroute could only affect one stream of traffic.

I think you have done the things I know I would have tried in reboot router etc, but a few other things to possibly try are if you have a spare router or can borrow one, try that out as it will rule out the modem/router as the issue.

also if your neighbours are with same ISP speak to them and see if they are having issues.

But in the end your ISP will need to be called to check your service and if you are on a quota system to double check you are not over this, as that could explain the difference in UL vs DL figures.
