    Hi guys,

[Myself = new member / computer knowledge not as strong as a lot of you] ;P

We use a Netgear ADSL router, and I connect through my laptop's wireless. We recently replaced the old host computer with a new box-- I'd reinstalled the router with Internet server details, and it worked fine for a short period of time. However, currently every time the host computer is switched on, my wireless Internet stops being able to load/connect-- on the host computer, the internet speed is very low that it takes forever to load a page. The connection says it's all fine and no matter how many 'solutions' I try (troubleshooting/checking IP/restarting the router), it insists that the host computer and my laptop are both connected to the network. This was the exact problem we had with the old battered box, but we figured the settings were corrupted on it as it was very slow (low RAM) with numerous other problems.

Anyway I'm baffled and can't figure out what it is that I am missing/not checking-- has any one any suggestions? Could the problem primarily be down to the internet service provider?

All suggestions are greatly appreciated ^^,

Hi miseriza and welcome to MGs.

Can you give a physical description of your network? I am perplexed as to how you are connecting. Do you have a ADSL modem and then the Netgear router and then the comps? How is your "host" computer connected - wired or wirelessly? Some model numbers and versions on the modem and/or router would help also.
What operating systems are you running on the computers and are you using the Windows wireless application or some other app to connect?

    Hi Ibmest,

Thanks for the response -- the modem/router is a 'wireless ADSL modem router Netgear DG834C v3' -- but it's connected through an extended phone cable to the modem, and the modem is connected via wired to the host computer. The operating system for it is Windows 7. On my laptop I still use Windows Vista, and I'm connected via Windows wireless to the router.

I'd wondered if the problem is due to the length of the cable from the phone-line to the modem, but that doesn't explain why my wireless can still connect to the router and yet the host computer stops the entire Internet from loading when it's switched on. What I've now noticed is that none of the LAN numbers on the router are lit up when the computer is off (lit up are the power/wireless/test/internet), and number 4 lights up when the host computer is switched on. I'm now guessing that the problem persists within the Ethernet connection of router to computer? ~ I'm not really sure how I can solve that. :s

    Welcome to Majorgeeks, miseriza!

Let me see if I have this right.
    You have DSL service.
Plugged into phone jack you have the DSL modem.
Plugged into the modem you have both a PC and an ADSL modem/wireless router combo.
Attached to that wireless you have a laptop?

If that is correct we have some reconfiguring to do and devices to remove but I want to confirm first.
