We had a virus issue. We have removed it but still can't log into the internet with browser. Yahoo messenger and weather bug both work but they are slow. Put all the setting back to the defaults and still can not get the internet to resond. :( Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just to be safe, I would like to see a HJT log to be certain no files exist in the LSP Chain.

Also, what Browser are you using? If your using IE then try Mozilla Firefox, see if you get the same problem. Let me know...

    • Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT
    • Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file.
    • Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.
    • Run HijackThis and save your log file.
    • Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Maybe before running HJT you could drop in your OS CD and see if there is a restore function -it seems possible (in my limited experience) that getting rid of a virus *may* have messed up your connection settings.

A HJT log will rule out many things, thanks your the help but I got it covered.

I disagree. While a HJT log may prove helpful the same holds true for fiver22's suggestion along with the obvious that is needed..additional information about what the OS is etc. A simple fix may also be using XP/TCIP Repair if appropriate to the OS as many viruses will hose an internet connection when removed. Simply dismissing his suggestion is not appropriate nor how things work in the software forum.

Thats not really the way to dismiss another members advice right or wrong as they may well be.. makes you come off a bit egotistical.

    ---------------------------

First thing is what OS are we talking about here?

If XP then I would be looking before going to HJT at repairing Winsock & TCP/IP and this nice small app is good at doing this

    XP TCP/IP Repair 1.0

A HJT log will let me know by O10 entries if there is a problem with the LSP Chain. TCP utility isnt needed if there isnt a problem there. I didnt want to jump in and use this until I knew for sure. Also, HJT log would tell me all I needed to know, OS, ServicePack, IE Version so dont tell me Im wrong. If YahooMesseger connects to the internet then there isnt anything wrong with the connection (TCP/IP) it could be ANYTHING. I have also seen where running this tool with no problems caused more damage so go ahead.

    This thread is yalls!

No your not wrong HJT will tell us what OS etc etc is being used BUT I am on record as being an avid anti first port of call HJT user as many users post logs ( until more forums took to attaching them ) when not really needed and this has made searching search engines a damm nightmare for any info.

gonna have to translate that for this poor european.

bj, I never said you were wrong so don't put words in my mouth. I disagreed with your post and still do because of the way in which you dismissed fiver22 and any others that may have come in and responded with a possible solution to the problem. Your 2nd reply to this thread was a reported post.

I am very familiar with not only HJT but XP TCP/IP Repair. I have personally never had a problem using this utility nor have any of those I have suggested use it, in fact the opposite is true..it has fixed connection issues including for star and I when we first got DSL and some things would connect and others wouldn't. Granted, your experience might be different with this utility but I have yet to see where it has caused a problem and would continue to recommend until I did.
