I have a stupid question, I should know the answer, but I am not sure.

I have road runner internet and a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router - Wireless router + 4-port switch - Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11g+.

I use 2 wireless and 2 wired connection.

The problem is within the wired connection. I know that the wired connection is suppose to be faster than the wireless, but connection in my wired connection would stream at 2mb then drop to .2 to .4 mb out of no where.

It also happens on my wifi too but not as frequent.

I know about time multiplexing and all that (I grad with and Bs in IS), but i really dont think that my streaming speed would drop sooo low and then pick again in like 30 mins.

My cable line is split 5 or 6 times in the back of the house and I am thinking thats the problem, but Im not sure.

This is a problem, because soon I am going to open up an online server in my place and I can't afford for my system to lag like this.

Do you think I should pay a little bit extra and get an static IP and get a faster router or no?

Time of day, number of other people using to provider could be putting a load on their server.
Any of or combination of causes are possible.
My cable drops from 6.4MBs down to 1.3MBs quite frequently.
Usually at close to the same time daily.

    I understand that, 6.4mb to 1.3mbs, but from 2mbs to .2mb

My internet is suppose to top out @ 10mbs, So im figuring has to be router, modem or cables.

I am going to ask them to update my modem and cables asap, and for xmas i might get a new router

If your looking to do hosting, get a commercial account, or dont bother hosting, because when you have problems and your isp says ha home account, you have no recourse and your "customers" are screwed at that point. Besides most "home" connections are filtered of ports you want to have access to anyhow. Good luck.

    Thought it already was static.
    Ethernet, modem, router,speed?
Dial-up is the one that changes.

Static ip doesn't mean your accounts business class, nor does it mean that they will spend any extra time trying to fix it if it goes down. Which is the exact opposite of hosting, more so if your gonna sell hosting to people. That also starts down other legal problems you need to research / be aware of.

I think half the problem is solved.

My internet problems is not my hardware issues.

It was Time warner installers are lazy, uneducated morons.

The spliter they installed to track me, basically was no good.

And on further investigations, the lines in the back has problems.

So now timer warner has to come, and redo all the lines in my back.

(i really want to go postal on them)
