    I saw an article in NS about this "Internet2". The simplicity of the changes is staggering, changing a few procedures in the current protocals increaces efficiency by a ludicrous ammount! The trouble is, Internet1 is grandfathered along, so people have to keep these idioms of gradually upgrading hardware.

    Like ACK packets. Conglomerating these into a single ACK for each "bundle" of packets reduces the time taken to transfer data majorly, and keeps bandwidth to a minimum.
