    On turning on my Win XP Pro machine, I get the mesg "invalid boot.ini loading from c:\windows". The machine then proceeds to boot normally. Is there anything to worry about?

    Go to start, run.

    Type C:\boot.ini

    Post what it says.

    You can still boot because the boot.ini is not required for a single boot system.

    This depending on your system can turn out to be bad. When this happed to me I let it go a few days later I was missing the HAl.dll file and I couldent boot up at all. What I recomend is wating to see if the same thing happens to you if it dose just reload windows. It seemed to work fine for me all you can do is wait.

    I had this error soemtime ago, the reason u can boot up means the is still a boot.ini file on your pc which is the good news.

    This is how I fixed it.

    1. do a search for boot.ini.backup open this file and it should say something similar to this

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows
    [Operating Systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\Windows="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

    2. Copy this text and right click the 'my computer' icon and go to properties.
    3. Click the advanced tab and then click the 'settings' button under system start up and recovery.
    4. In the new property window under the section system startup click the 'edit' button. This will likely open an empty notepad. Copy that text from the bootup.ini.back into there and save.
    5. Reboot and the error should not occur.

    Just posted this in case anyone else gets the same error, it seems quite common at the mo. Not sure if it is a result of a recent windows update.

    Reloading windows works for everyone. But its not a fix.
