Invalid Handler error when trying to execute .exe files from cdrom

for some reason all the sudden a computer gives this "invalid Handler" on any excecutable files from the CD. i searched the forums and didnt see anything on it. ive also googled it but not been able to find a consistent true fix.

the computer is an XP machine 1 gig ram sp3. it has symantec end point anti virus. but so does 50 other computers here so i dnot think that is a cause. anyone got any ideas?

Have you tried replacing the drive?
