Hi There....I'm so glad i found this site! My question is this: I recently ran spybot and PestPatrol which found Investigator, the Keylogger program. Is Investigator something that i could have picked up from surfing the net or is it something that had to be installed on this computer.
This computer I'm talking about is at work and i am suspicious of one of my co-workers with that type of mentality.

    Thanks so much!

Is this a computer that more people than you use? If it is...could anyone be trying to 'keep an eye on you'? Like a suspicious husband/boyfriend/parent/freaky roomate?

If that is a possiblity then it is a possibility that they put it on there to see what you are doing while on the net.

    Just my 2 cents!

I don't know if it is possible for a hacker to do such a thing but if it is then I am sure their motives would be to acquire your passwords and such...security information and whatnot.

Go into control panel and see if this keylogger shows up there in the page that popultes when you click 'add/remove programs'.

OR maybe you want to run this program after you are on the net and see if all of your keystrokes show up...then delete the info before you shut down. If the 'sneaky other person using your computer' scenario is likely then you will have to change your passwords for everything if you are successful with deleting the records of your keystrokes...because they probably already have your current passwords right?

    There's 5 more cents.

Thanks for the 7 cents! Since I am the only one who uses this computer, and there have been some issues, I thought it might be a nosey MSCE here at work....If i cant "catch" this type of program from surfing the net (geek sites and hotmail) then i have to follow my gut! Thanks for the input, i have changed all my passwords. Im so glad i dont do my banking or purchasing at work!!

One more question then.....since its a stealth program, and doesnt show anywhere (add/remove, start-up), how do i know its really gone?

Hey Lynnski...sorry I couldn't get back to you any further as I was away for the past week. I don't know if I am fully qualified on instructing you whether or not the program is gone ( although 'Hijackthis' might reveal it ) but I can say that there was talk in newspapers and such regarding an Internet Explorer weakness which was allowing a keylogger to get into people's computers...then sending information ( credit card #'s and passwords/security info ) to some place in Russia. The recipients of the information were then charging stuff to people's credit cards and such. Good thing that you don't do your banking or purchasing at work.
