I installed this program a few days ago. When I did I ran the program and it erased what it thought it needed to. I restarted my comp. and when it came up it was on my desktop with no icons or start bar or anything, I couldn't do anything. I hit cnrtl-alt-del and could bring up task manager. That is the only way I can do anything., I went to look in windows help, it is deleted, I mean u can bring it up, but there is no content in it. I am not real good with computers but I think it erased alot of necessary windows files. i went to their website, not real helpful if you need their help. I emailed them about this and haven't heard anything. I just wanted my computer to run a little faster it was getting annoyingly slow. What is really aggrevating is I paid them $30 for them to mess up my computer and then not help me. Can anyone help me with this? I want to retain as much info. as I can, pics. notepad file, etc.

Bring up Task Manager, and in applications hit "new task" and write:explorer.exe
    see what happens.

I have used task manager to browse for windows explorer. i clicked on it and the start bar and icons came up.....then went back off.....then back on.....then off. It is really annoying. I won't ever use ANYTHING from Iobit again. They don't support their product and only want money. Don't mean to bash, but when you pay a company for a program that is called Advanced WINDOWS Care, and it kills your computer, and they won't reply to you, it is really frustrating.

If you can go in safe mode run check disk.

    get your windows cd handy

    start>run>typein

    cmd

in the black box which opens typein
    sfc /scannow (note double n)

If you can't get to the run box

do the same from a command prompt
restart the pc and repeatedly tap the F8 key
choose start in safe mode with command prompt.

I tried what u said studiot, I went to safe mode and entered what u said. It just kept giving me a contents of scandisk. How do u get it to run it? I am a novice computer oper. I think this may be on the right track to getting it back up. I tried running the restore and it dosen't do anything.

I am sorry you have had trouble with AWC. It is one of my Favourites and I use the FREE version nearly every day.

There is a "Restore" function. Simply select the date you want to restore.
I must admit I have never used this, didn't know it existed, as I have never had any trouble with this program.

I recommend (and install) it on many people's PC's.

scandisk does not exist in windows XP - which version do you have?

I did say go choose 'safe mode from command prompt' from the list. This will boot to a DOS like black screen. You enter the 'sfc /scannow' command here. this will replace core Windows system files from your CD, if they are damaged.

It would also be worthwhile running the scandisk replacement, called check disk

    typein

    chkdsk /r

    as Goran suggested.

Since your pc finds Windows and makes some attempt to boot I do not think IOBIT has altered the boot sector.

There is one other setting on the boot options screen to go for this is called
'last known good configuration' But this will only work if the core files are intact as it substitutes a copy of the last registry to successfully boot the pc.

If you download Dial-a-Fix, there is two commands (the last two) in the tools section (hammer icon), SFC purge and SFC scan. They will re-check all windows files and restore them to original condition, but you must have the XP disc. It takes a long while to run.

I don't have the disk, I bought the comp. from comp usa and it was installed already. It is XP. Does anyone know any contact info. for Iobit? I wish i could use the dial a fix program, no disk though. I should have made a reboot disk when it was all okay.

If you can borow an XP disc from a friend, it should work...I think. I wasn't asked for a key when I ran it a few months back. It doesn't actually install, just checks Windows files on your PC against the ones on the disc and then repairs any corrupt or missing ones. It's worth a try anyway.

When I was trying to use the scandisk. It kept giving me what each scan**** would do. When I tried to do one of those like scannow it would not let me. How do you enter the command to do them? Is it scf/scannow then enter? That is what I would type in, I don't know if you have to use a prefix or anything.

    Computers are pedantic

It is very important that you enter the commands correctly.

Look carefully at the commands I gave you.

Scandisk does not, repeat not, exist in Windows XP.

The alternative is called check disk and the correct command is as I previously wrote

    chkdsk /r

scannow does not pertain to this command.
Note also the space between the switch and the command.
Without the switch check disk will simply scan and report, not repair anything. This is what you are seeing.

What you also need is the System File Checker, as Musky (welcome back) says you need a Windows XP CD for this. The CD has to be the same service pack and version as your installation.

Once again note the space; the command alone will only check, not fix.

Why not try the AWC restore function first, before stuffing around with all sorts of other programs and commands?

After all, that is what it is there for.

I discovered the reason why I couldn't post my thumbnails yesterday. Default had been changed to *.bmp, not *.jpg (not by me :confused), so too big to post on MG. :cry

Thumbnail below. Hope this helps. Example is of last 3 runs of AWC on my PC. Bazza.

I tried running the restore and it doesn't do ANYTHING. I get an hour glass for a second then, nothing. I wish it would work. I also tried the chkdsk. I ran it and it looked like everything was better when windows first came up, start bar and everything, then out, on, out, on, it keeps freaking out. Does anyone know any contact info. for Iobit? The reason I used this program is I heard numerous good reviews for it.

    There are two possibilities.

Firstly the only changes that have been made are in the registry. This is unlikey but possible to recover from without a Windows CD.

Secondly and more likely some important files have been changes in addition to registry changes. These cannot be reversed without a Windows CD unless IOBIT stored the originals of the files and its restore function works.

Have you tried Windows System Restore?

That was the first thing I did Wildwolf, they won't respond back to me. There is no other contact info. besides an email. Is there a number I can reach them at, it would make things easier. Studiot will the windows restore erase all the programs and files I have stored? I am going to reboot windows if I can't find another way, this is just aggrevating because I will have to reload all my programs such as my Verizon dsl and whatnot. I went out of town about a couple of months ago and cam e back to a black screen, had to reboot it all then, aaahhh! I ment to get a back up external hard drive then, but with finances haven't done it yet. How will I know what way it has affected it, first way or second?

No, it won't affect your previously installed stuff, just use System Restore back to a time before you installed IOBIT.

    start>programs>accessories>systemtools>systemrestore

I tried that today studiot, but it could not restore any of the dates previous to the time I loaded that program.

So far as I can tell you have not reported running the system file checker.

    This leaves two options

A repair installation which will leave your data intact, but damage some programs windows updates and service packs.
A full clean reinstallation which will erase everthing first.

You will need your Windows CD.
