Two excellent programs imo but I don't need or want them starting automatically, I want to run them when they are needed. I've disabled all the Iobit entries in Autoruns but that hasn't done it - both are still starting automatically. Does anyone know how this can be done?

    Services.
Change the startup type to manual.
If the startup type is changed back to automatic, look at the settings of each program.

So... Advanced System Care is no longer a 'very dangerous piece of software'? :D

Have you actually tested this Eldon? Whatever I set the ASC service to it is reset to automatic at restart, and unchecking the program option to start with Windows doesn't make any difference either - it still starts. ASC starts Driver Booster too though that aspect can be disabled - or at least that's what it says . So, if I want to be able to use the program, I'm stuck with it starting up automatically and it's having a dire effect on this puny Thinkpad's startup time.

Yeah, I know I've really damned this program in the past, and at the time with good reason. But I've seen enough evidence now to convince me - at least as far as the default features are concerned - that it really can fix lots of common issues. Trisha's current thread is a good example, and Driver Booster is impressive, remarkable in fact for a free program.

I use driver booster to install drivers whenever I reinstall Windows. It makes it so much easier instead of searching for all the drivers

No, I haven't used ASC in ages.
And yes, some programs will reset their startup options to Automatic in Services. That you will have to take up with the publisher. Don't hold your breath...
