I have just downloaded IObit defrag 2 (beta 2.0)and i was offerd free versions of system care and their 360 security. Now before i start using it can any one give me some insight about it, I have currently AVG 9 and the free version of Malwarebytes on this desktop, would it be wise for me to replace the AVG (having no issues with it) with the IObit 360 as i have read good raves about IObit software, I currently use their defrag tool which by the way is excellent, much better than piraforms defaggler!!, so basicly all i am after is a heads up, I don't intend to use the system care as I've read many posts about (and assisted in) how it can mess the registry up,so that is already binned.
Thanks for any help with this.

It's arguable, but I personally believe that IObit Security 360 is a rogue security program known to cause system problems and that had stolen material from other computer security companies to use in their own program. See:
    IOBit Steals Malwarebytes’ Intellectual Property
    IOBit’s Denial of Theft Unconvincing
The program has also been seen to cause numerous system problems that tend to go away after uninstalling their software.

    Hey Duckfeet,
Thanks for that, IObit 360 is no longer on my system now. Will stick with my dependable AVG9 and Malwarebytes.

Still using a year old story? Iobit is safe and Duckfeet should know better, Majorgeeks was in discussion with Iobit and Malwarebytes, anyone else telling a story certainly is basing it on speculation whereas we discussed it with both of the owners.

Basically the malware database from Malwarebytes was found in Iobits malware removal program. It was claimed that an employee who did it was fired. Whether that is true or not, it was resolved to both parties satisfaction and we left a warning in place for Iobit.

They have been around a long time and it would surprise me that they would write a DOZEN tools, then take a database from a popular program intentionally, it would be suicide.

I am a fan of both companies and use both of their products personally.

I know it's down to personal preference but would you consider IObit to be a better option than AVG?? I have noticed lately that AVG is taking qiute alot resources on my machine, it is not as light as it used to be.
By the way the site is excellent I've learnt so much in the short time that i have been a member, it has a great comminity feel as every one inputs what they can to help others.
A BIG THUMBS UP FROM ME!!!!!

AVG I have no issue with but recently they had some issues but resolved them, it happens. AVG is a 24\7 anti-viru. Tools from Malwarebytes and Iobit are designed to be run as needed so they are in a different camp.

Currently I have been using Panda CLoud Antivirus and love it. Give it a try.

I'll do some more research on IOBit...When I first heard this, it was totally believable, and I respect malwarebytes, (and it was someone who worked there who gave me the info)...and I do trust the MBAM people to make good decisions, and not through out stuff like this unless it were true...but it wasn't official, and I guess it could have been just bad hype...I hadn't heard different, until now, and it was credible when I first read it, so I'd been going with it, and warning people off it...(obviously), I agree that sometimes, once a bad rep starts, it's hard to shake, and I don't want to be guilty of that, so I'll desist.

I do hope you read the dates on the posts on the links you supplied as they are from 02 November 2009, that is a lifetime in computing circles and as MA has pointed out this was resolved by both parties along time ago.

Personally I wouldnt spend any time on researching it as its a null story now, and just as laughable in the main as Bing stealing Googles search parameters as in various AV companies checking out each others definition files etc

As for AVs iain.t then Panda Cloud is ok, I'm still in part not convinced at "cloud" based apps for security as if your internet is offline then how do you update (likely they may have a manual def file, but I have not checked as yet on this) and we know that many malwares block internet access.... have run the older beta of Panda Cloud so not upto date with the lastest version so if anyone can clue me in that would be good as to manual updates.

That said if you are looking for a light resource Av then Microsoft Security Essentials is also worth checking out.

    Thanks David,
I have tried MSE on my daughters laptop last year, which did a superb job, as her Uni's internet wouldn't allow her access with AVG installed.
I am going to try the Panda Cloud on the desktop,as that is easier to fix if anything goes wrong!!!!

Of course the dates were old. That was kind of when the whole thing came to light...And I know, it was a bit of a 'canned speech' and I'm embarassed I posted it here because I look up to the malware fighters on this site, and I've been helped so much by so many people on MajorGeeks as to make me question my own sanity in posting it in the first place. "Act in haste, repent at leisure...' or something like that...But I don't think it's 'null' or 'laughable' either, to be honest.

I take the ethics of antivirus companies seriously, and everybody wasn't happy what did come to light, or with the way that fracas ended. And since I'd never heard anything in mitigation after that--until now--I guess I kept the same attitude I had when I first heard it....

I do feel now like I was publicly beating a dead horse...we live and die in public on the Web: IObit and me both, sadly. But I do totally agree with MA that if MBAM and IObit can resolve the matter and move on, I should do the same. IOBIt's rep is not near as important to me as the good will of the people of MajorGeeks.

    Hey Duckfeet,
Stop stressing man!!! I still valued your input, and have not installed IObit as part of your advice, no one gets it right all the time thats why we are part of a wider community here at MG's, there is always some one there to step in and give their advice, I have learnt a great deal from people here and I've still got a great deal more to learn... so any advice is always welcome,it helps to weigh up the pro's and con's of certain issues that people are struggling with.

Thankyou: I'm a malware fighter on another site, I work hard at it, hours daily, and when I run up against something I can't figure out--like some locked Registry Files a couple days ago, or some redirections before that--I come over here to see how these guys do it, and trot back and post my fix, and get much better at what I do because of it, and have yet to be let down or misled, so I tend to see the people here as my teachers, in that area, and do--obviously--take what they say to heart in all areas. This was not an important issue to me but I learned to be a bit more cautious with my presumptions...and, well, being ex-military I kind of like being a corporal anyway :) ...

    Greetings to all :wave

I truly understand what happens, what it means & the consequences of:

    "Open Mouth - Insert Foot"

Once all is chewed & digested - heartburn & indigestion!

That is absolutely awesome Duckfeet, that an experience provided a "Learning" situation. So many times, in hindsight, we reqret what so quickly came flying off our lips. So in retrospect, we then (from learning a lesson) put into practice - due diligence to "Weigh Our Words" before putting them into the air (or in type) for others to hear or read.

    But...

    Because of a quick comment...

iain.t accepted your quote & now has a "Bad Taste" for Iobit! That really is not fair to them at this point of the game. I too read & followed the news a few years back about this supposed scandal & bad news. I was a user of their products & truly received much benefit from them on most of my computers & have recommended them to my friends & family. Then when I heard about this news... I was somewhat placed in a dilemma. Now What? I may have reacted harshly & hastily, but I (not with any thought, though) removed them from my computers, but did not mention to friends. I continued to follow the story - then I one day just went to the understanding to have "them -Iobit" rest on their laurels. They worked it out with MBAM, still had a very good piece of software & I realized a fact (that I brought back to memory) that it had fixed an ailing computer for me years earlier.

So, maybe iain.t may one day return to Iobit & give them a shot? And I am in NO way associated with them. Just so you know.

I'm sorry for the rant - I just don't like it when anyone or anybody gets a bad rap via hasty words (like gossip) then it spreads, and somebody becomes a victim - 'For No Reason'..

    Just my $00.02 rolleyes

Just call me Confuddled One. :-o

I read this thread and I'm not sure what to do. I have IObit360 installed as well as Avast anti-virus. Is that okay or do those programs conflict?

    Thanks,
    Lavender

Everyone needs a qualified antivirus software, and Security 360 will surely be the best mate for your current Antivirus.

So, its not a standalone antivirus, keep avast on.
