Let this be a warning to all Microsoft Windows Vista users. Especially HP Pavilion Notebook owners. I installed iolo's System Mechanic Pro 7 and I figured updating it to version 8 online would help my system work better. Nothing could have prepared me for what happened. The software, which should be labeled properly as malware corrupted by boot sector. I spent somewhere around 30 minutes with HP Technical Support chat to see if I could get the system back, nothing!! So frustrated and nearly in tears as everything I loaded into this spanking new laptop is going with me on a business trip to DC on Tue after Labor Day. Iolo's false advertisement of having 24 hour support is going to land them in serious trouble. There is NOTHING of a kind which is indicative of a corrupt company that misleads the consumer into believing they will get help when iolo's software causes a system crash. I attempted to call the technical support line and how ironic nobody will be in until AFTER Labor Day!!! The only support you'll get is going to their website and making a ticket out for them to get back to you.

I do not understand how companies with malware for Windows Vista can get away with getting accolades from CNet, Laptop Computing, etc. or they are just slapping labels on their boxes making claims to their excellence some years ago. Whatever the case, my system is ruined due to iolo's incompetent and useless software and now I have no laptop for this trip!! I trusted they would come around when I purchased their System Mechanic about a year ago and it caused me headaches on an older laptop. I had to wipe it out clean and install a full retail version of Windows Vista Home. I foolishly thought the System Mechanic Pro would be huge fix and improvement, instead it has turned my computing experience into a nightmare!!! So bad that my system will not recover when opting for F11 key to restore!!

No reputable company would put their reputation on the line by falsely advertising 24 hour support and leave their customer's hanging in a lurch. Another good indicator of a corrupt company is the ad "Do Not Return the product, Call us" Hmmm. Call who? After hours, forget it, during the holiday, forget it, weekends, forget it. This company is a scam!! I don't know of any retailers that will let you return software, exchange it maybe; interesting!!

You have my sympathy, i too have been a victim of system mechanic.

not being a geek i used it in hope it would help me clean up the PC (before i found MGs) and like you had a disaster but luck was on my side and i had a good backup but still had to re-format the PC.
