I keep getting an error message about twice a day stating that:

"There is an IP address conflict with another system on the network."

What does this mean? Is there a way to correct this?

Need a bit more info? yoou at work? school? home? Using a router? Using static ip addresses? Generally this happens when they static ip is set, and someone else is using a static ip matching thus causing conflicts.

I am at home using a router, Linksys wireless with dynamic ip addresses. I have two computers one laptop (wired) and one desktop (wireless). I thought at first it meant that someone was hacking into my computer trying to use my internet. How do you tell if its static or dynamic?

Under the post box...scroll down to manage attachments ....browse to the saved file and then upload.

First thing I see is there is no gateway in one of them ....check both tcp/ip settting ....right click my network places / properties ..right click local area network / properties / tcp/ip properties .....are they both set to auto detect?
If not add the gateway to the one that is missing ....let us know what you got.

I did...start, control panel, network connections, and right clicked my network places under the other places tab and tried properties but nothing happened. Is there something I am doing wrong? Is the path different for a wireless connection? This is on the computer that didn't have a default gateway.

Look in advanced and see if the gateway address is listed ...if not add.
And both should be in the same exactly spelled "workgroup" in properties of my computer.

I added the same gateway as the other computer and got booted from the connection so I went back in and deleted the gateway and now I am back online.

In a word, a domain is used when you have a network with remote computers and doamin servers that the remotes can connect with ....there are group policy's that control what the remotes can and can't do ...as well as allow the distribution of applications and programs. Simple home and small networks usually work as a workgroup.
