Most of the time when I boot up, My IP address comes up zeros. Sometimes, rebooting will fix it, and sometimes I have to drop to cmd, and run ipconfig /repair.
I am connected to a linksys 4 port router, and the other computer connected to it does fine.
This has never happened before, and it's getting frustrating as Hell.
It's getting to the point where it is happening almost everytime I boot this machine.

    Any ideas?

When we get problems like that on our networks it usually ends up being a slowly failing network card. I'm not sure but I believe some have a BIOS, ie the IP address is stored in the card and not just allocated by SW on boot. (That could be a load of rubbish).

Have you got another card you can swap it for to see if it's the card?

I bought a new card and Cat 5 cable because of this problem. But it still does it. Not as often though.

should this be in the Network forum?? Hell, I dunno,,,

Have you tried a different port on the router? Or tried switching ports and see if the problem moves to the other pc? I would say flash the router, or reset to factory defaults and resetup. Linksys are the right price, but not always the most reliable. Good luck.

I tried a different port. No joy.

I did find that once my network connection was disabled, and when I enabled it, it worked,, until I rebooted. The problem just seems to be getting an assigned IP address from whoever the IP address gods are on this thing. I think the DNS is handled by the router, but I'm not sure the IP is. I forgot the address to get into the router setup,, (I remember the password,)

Anyways, try this on your computer:

    ipconfig /renew

If it states an error saying that the IP it's trying to get is already been used... then there's your problem.

I have this problem too (kind of). Basically the curlpit is one of my old computers using Win98.. it always seems to want to get my 219 IP (my main computer "Destiny", the server, runs on 218 IP.. which I have from 218-222). Plus it seems that computer I have the IP problem wants 219 IP also.. which is conflicting with Win9x.

As to how to fix it.. I have no absolute solution (because if I disable DHCP [manual input IP], that computer wont be able to see anything in Workgroup). But the solution I found was to go to the Win9x computer and use the ipconfig /renew all which fixed the problem

I dont know if this is a similar problem to what you have.

sounds to me like the issue is probably a software relates problem. Try swapping nics between the two computers. If the problem follows the Nic then it's the NIC, if it stays then it's most likely a software issue.

I think it was left over from a virus I got. I did a repair install of XP, and the problem is gone now.

Thanks again for the replies. :)
