IP Conflict

It would seem that I have an IP conflict on my NT network which supports around 100 workstations.
Somehow the Master Reserved IP #1 exists on two machines one (of course) is the DHCP server.
I need a command or program that would reveal the impostor's computer name or location without running an ipconfig on each machine.

could it be possible that this persons computer or your own is set to obtain the same ip address daily? or both are set this way?

 

No, if he is using a dhcp setup no 2 machines set to dhcp will grab the same ip, read a little about dhcp. Using arp -a will give you the ip address resolved to a mac address. Then log into your router or switches depending on how nice of gear you have, and look for a dhcp list, which should give you machine name = mac address. Then you should be able to find said person.

 

And i forget to mention the arp -a should be run on the dhcp server, after getting a conflict message. I believe thats the only way that would work, but you may be able to run it on any machine in the network with an ip.

 

They definitely are both obtaining this IP, what I need is a command or a program / tool to give me a device name so I don't have to check IPs manually on over 100 computers.

 

A silly question really, but what IP range is your DHCP set to cover?
Is this less than the number of pcs?

 

or use the builtin method i suggested, arp -a.
