ip question

i seem to have a router ip that never changes or only changes once every like 4 months or so is that normal

id like to have one that changes so it would be more secure ya know

how do i do that

 

Your router IP should only change if you change it manually. From an IE window, type in 192.168.1.1 and press enter. It will prompt for a username/password, enter the password. By default the password is "admin".

You can manually change the router IP from the settings, I've never heard of a router changing its IP by itself.

i reset my router about 4 months ago to update my firmware

after the reset i changed my settings back to what they where before the reset

but i kept the new ip

and ive had that ip for four months but yesterday i noticed i have a diffrent one

anyway i was just wondering if i should set my router to change my ip everyday so itll be more secure

 

I've had my router for about 4 years and I changed it when I set it up and it's been the same since. Everyone has different opinions about changing the IP but personally I think if you enable the firewall in router, change the router password, install a software firewall and surf safely you will not have any problems.

 

Depends on ur isp. that's something u have to ask them. normally the lease will last for quite awhile. the thing is that if u upgrade ur firmware which only takes a few mins, at worst, u won't lose ur old ip. so that's why. i highly doubt they will change just YOUR ip that often just because u want to be more secure but it's worth a shot.
