IP Scopes

I had a question and I was wondering if there was anybody out there that could help me with it. If you have a DHCP Ip address scope on one server of 219.231.171.1- 255.255.255.0 - 219.231.171.254- 255.255.255.0 what can you do if your running low on IP's?? If I want to put another address scope on a second server what scope can I use that will talk to this one?? I looked up using two dhcp scopes in some books I have and all I could find was two scopes but the same range one server has 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.126 and then on the other server put 192.168.0.128 - 192.168.0.254. Anyways if anybody has any thoughts or ideas they'd like to give me I would appreciate it. I'm just wondering what happens when all the IP's are used up.

Your not stuck with your current scope. Just increase the one you have.

Current: 219.231.171.1 - 219.231.171.254 255.255.255.0 254 Addresses

New: 219.231.168.1 - 219.231.171.254 255.255.252.0 1022 Addresses

With the second option you won't have to readdress everything. If you have static IP's just exlcude them the rest will be your scope.

We are on DHCP and I didn't want to tear down the current scope so I left it up 219.231.171.1 - 219.231.171.254 I created a super scope with the addresses of 219.231.168.1 - 219.231.170.254 in it and activated it but whenever I try to use these new addresses on client computers I am not able to connect to the network. Is there a step I'm missing??

 

You'll have to remove the current scope. Richt now they overlap. That may not work. Im not a Client or NT person, just networks. Make the default gateway 219.231.168.1, that would be my guess. Make sure the new ip's have the correct DNS, etc.
