I can see replies to my thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106870
but I can't get in there to reply. Same message ipconfig /flushdns.

I've googled for it and realised that I should be typing in cmd in Run. I've done that, got an MSDOS box, typed in ipconfig /flushdns and <enter>.

Message comes back as " Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver cache" but no difference. It still crashes. I may not be able to reply to any replies in this thread, either. Bazza

Empty your temp files and delete cookies, see if that helps Bazza.

Thanks Steve. Ran them both. That also logged me off MG.
Logged in again, and all appears to be working (phew).
I was getting paranoid for a while. Gotta get my daily fix of MG.:D Bazza

Bazza do you see the IP address below instead of forum.majorgeeks

    http://208.101.7.150/forums/showthread.php?t=106872

as it seems that flushing the DNS cache isnt working in this instance for once, philipp the forum code guy, added a re-direct fromt he old server to this the new one via the IP address instead of the URL, you'll be ok while the DNS servers are propagating the address again, sometimes takes 24hrs.

    Yep, daily fix OK. :D
I have to use http://208.101.7.150/forums/index.php for each change of Forum, when going from Software, to Hardware, to Lounge, etc., as well.

Have saved that link as one of My Favourites :)p :D ) for the moment. Bazza

    Baz,

Same here, the "fix" didn't work for me, if I do not put the url as you have it above, I can't get to majorgeeks. I have been shaky  trying to get it to work, can't go without my daily reading of MJ.

    Have a good day,

BTDT, still the same for me today. (another 24 hours gone, almost) :(
Dunno whether it is my tweaking, AOL.com, MG, dialup, or whatever, but I still have to use http://208.101.7.150/forums/index.php to get into Forums. :p

    Bazza,

I am still the same too and I have changed nothing since they changed servers, so no tweaks, no nothing. I have spoofstick installed on both IE & Firefox and it never says "MajorGeeks" now, just the 208.... etc.

I have tried the old url's and get no where with them, it even ask me if I wanted to let 208..... put cookies on my computer. Since I have already OK'd MJ I found this odd too as MJ is still in my "Authorised" group.

Hope we see a solution here soon.

    Have a good day,
    BeenThereDoneThat

P.S. Are we the only 2 in the whole world that are having this problem? I just went to MajorGeeks.com and that showed up in spoofstick as it should not the 208.... Just when I go to the forums, even from the Majorgeeks.com.

Could the mods give us some information on this please?

    Bazza,

Just noticed something else. I was here at the forum, logged in of course, went to Majorgeeks.com, came back here and it did not recognize me, Majorgeeks.com evidently overwrote my cookies and I had to log back in here and accpet the cookies again.

    Interesting,
    BeenThereDoneThat

Edit -- In fact, just went to another site without closing my browser and came back here and it did not recognize me again, had to log back in, so it seems the cookies that it is sending me are not doing anything to memorize who I am.

BTDT, just done a trawl of all the Forums that I visit daily. Software, Hardware, Lounge and Interesting links, in that order.

All require the http://208......... to get into them, even if you return to them after cycling through the other Forums, as I have just done now..

MajorGeeks front page www.majorgeeks.com and Must Have Free downloads http://www.majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=20 do not require the 208... ,
I assume this is because they are "read only", and no MG member can post to them.

The above URL's work fine, as stored in My Favourites.

Hope we are not the only 2 in the MG world, but it looks like it is, at the moment.
    :( :p Bazza

    Bazza,

What I can't figure out is why the cookies are not remembering who I am when I leave one of the MJ forum sites and go somewhere else, then come back here without closing my browser?

I have tried it in both IE & FF and it is the same. I can go to anyother site and when I come back here I have to log in all over again, even if I never logged out or closed the browser.

That has never happened to me here before, I always stayed logged in until I closed the browser or ask to be logged out. I don't like having to log in everytime I go to another site and then come back here, I know it is no big deal, but I think I am logged in go to post and it tells me I am not logged in.

    BeenThereDoneThat

P.S. Just had a real intersting event, went from this post to the Software forum (here at MJ http://208.101.7.150/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21) and it logged me out, had to log in again to come back here.

Yep, I've had the same experience, almost exactly as you have. :p
Guess we'll have to wait until the mods come back to us.

The only other choice is to change all our MG Forum favourites to show as starting with http://208......... Bazza :p and use it everytime when I change Forums. :p

PS: I'm using XP Pro (SP2 + updates), aol.com (which uses an overlay / skin), over IE6, on dialup. Baz

No your not the only ones this is affecting, just many I have had PMs etc from are not too worried as yet as this just seems a slow takeup of DNS for some unknown reason,

My work PC is still running off the IP addys, maybe an issue with our internal security and servers etc

My home PC, was the same until lastnight and only changed when I was or had to boot Vista into safemode to run some tasks, while their I flushed the DNS cache and emptied cookieandcream ok not the cream but the temp internet files and re-booted into normal mode and daDA up popped the forum URL, did the same on my desktop and low and behold the correct URLs to the forum pages ( do note that the email links are still not working as they should for me at least )

SO try booting into safe mode and flushing DNS and your cookies and temps.. may work or maybe a coincedence for me.

BUT we do know of the issues at hand and they are being looked into as we always do, just this one is taking longer, the price of moving forward and keeping the forum online and as error free as posible.. just bare with us

    Cheers :)

Still not working here, I wonder if it has to do with where we are located and the servers that are in between us and MG? That is if my server has not yet got it straight, then maybe I can't until it does? Just a guess.

    Have a good one,

    Halo,

Thanks so much, still the same here, no change, but seeing that it seems to be working out for others, mabe it will work out here. At least "where there is hope, there is life" ;) I guess what bugs me most is the dumping of the cookies and having to log in each time I come here or refresh the page.

Where are you located, BeenThereDone That? Not in Australia, I guess.

I will try running ipconfig/ flushdns in Safe Mode as Halo (I think it was) suggested before I log on tomorrow. Going soon, as it is still only 4.10am saturday (yawn). Bazza

    Baz,

I am in France. I tried the "safe mode" with the ipconfig /flushdns to no avail, did not help. Maybe I am cursed or bieng punished for spending so much time on MG

MG was off the air for a few minutes, just now, for maintenance.
Looks like it works for me as I just logged in to the Software Forum in the normal (pre-208....) way.;) :D

Thanks Guys, for whatever you did. Bazza

BTW, you are one of the few (only?) member I have noticed from France. Baz
PS: Just checked. All Forums are working for me. Thanks again, guys. Baz
