IPconfig & Internet shows different IP

Hello,

I noticed that my web IP is different than the IP shown when I run IPconfig. If memory serves me right both the IP shown on the web and IPconfig were once the same. I have also noticed that my IP shown on the internet has less numbers than what is shown on ipconfig.

I have heard that when you are on the internet the IP shown on websites is not yours but rather the IP address of your internet service...but not 100% sure if this is true or not.

Little back ground: I use Firefox and checked to see if a proxy was being used which there is not. This is my personal computer (only one in the house). My internet connection is hardwired and have no type of WiFi. I also use Comcast.

I also ran a virus and spyware scanner and nothing was detected.

Is this normal or should I be concerned?

Its is normal for someone using a router, to have a different ip address on there personal machine then the internet address shown by websites. Its nothing to worry about.

 

Right, there are private IPs and public IPs... ipconfig will give you your private IP, andsites like whatsmyip tell you the public IP. And if your behind a router that has NAT & DHCP you'll have different numbers.

 

i agree with foogoo's opinion
there are two ips public and private and due to routers the web site aint able to spot out the real one which u expect but the one that they get a grab on is the router one ( public ip)
